Lenses & Brushes began with a spark of inspiration in 2021 during a Fine Arts Photography class, when I found myself completely immersed in the beauty, craft, and process of analog photography. When I later learned that Boise’s last public darkroom was at risk of disappearing, I knew I wanted to help preserve it—not only as a place to develop film, but as a creative resource for our community.

That idea grew into Lenses & Brushes Photography & Art Studio: a welcoming space where people of all ages and experience levels can learn, experiment, make art, and connect.

Photography is at the heart of what we do. From film photography and darkroom printing to digital photography, alternative processes, and hands-on workshops, Lenses & Brushes is a place to slow down and experience photography as a craft. But creativity here extends far beyond the camera. We also offer watercolor, acrylic painting, mixed media, youth art programs, creative gatherings, and community events designed to make art approachable and enjoyable.

I believe art has the power to bring people together, build confidence, spark curiosity, and give us permission to simply create. You don't have to consider yourself an artist or photographer to belong here. You only need to be curious.

I’m Heidi Cabrera, an educator with thirteen years of teaching experience and a background in photography, media technology, and yearbook instruction. Teaching has always been one of the things I love most, and Lenses & Brushes has given me the opportunity to bring together my love of education, photography, art, and community in one place.
