The Story of Lenses & Brushes
It all started as a fleeting dream in 2021 while I was immersed in a Fine Arts Photography class taught by David Marr. The spark that turned this dream into a reality was the news about David and Kris, the owners of Cole Marr, retiring and closing down their photography workshops.
Cole Marr wasn't just any studio; it held Boise's last public darkroom, a place close to my heart. I remember the moment vividly. The news hit me, and it felt like a call to action. I couldn't let this symbol of our community's creativity fade away. So, I spoke with David and Kris, and before I knew it, I was on the path to take over, fueled by a blend of excitement and a deep sense of responsibility.
Lenses & Brushes is more than just a studio to me. It's a beacon for creativity and a nurturing space for artists and photographers, both seasoned and aspiring. My vision? To continue offering photography workshops, in-field sessions, and darkroom rentals. But that's not all. I'm thrilled to introduce visual art workshops and summer art camps for kids starting June 1st, 2024.
I believe in the transformative power of art, and I'm eager to see the new passions and revived interests it will kindle in our community. We're not just about learning; we're about experiencing and enjoying. Imagine fun nights painting with friends or pairing beautiful vessels with plants in our unique sessions. At Lenses & Brushes, we're creating an environment where people can learn, rekindle old flames, take time for themselves, and create memories that last a lifetime.
A bit about myself - I'm Heidi Cabrera. I've been teaching for the past thirteen years, focusing on Photography, Media Technology, and Yearbooks at a middle school. I'm a wife, a mother of three grown children, a grandmother, and a proud parent to three fur babies. Art, in all its forms, is my passion. This new adventure with Lenses & Brushes is a dream come true, and I'm overjoyed to share this journey with you.
